The doors to Spellmans’ Social were opened in July of 2021 by brother and sister duo Ryan and Emily Spellman. Knowing the community in Glenelg East needed a space for caffeination and social get togethers, they jumped at the opportunity to create a space of their own. Having grown up in country Queensland, community has always been at the forefront of the ethos behind Spellmans’ Social and is what still drives the venue today.

Fast forward two years and while Emily has jetted off to the UK to live her best life, Ryan remains on the ground at the venue, committed to bringing a space for the community of Glenelg East to gather, caffeinate, enjoy good food, coffee, wine & occasionally a great live music act and other events.

A music industry veteran and lover himself (and part time DJ..), Ryan has always had a passion for live music and particularly bringing local acts to the people.

“We hold seasonal events including our Friday night “Railway Blues” with local Blues legends on a rotating roster, and our Sunday Sessions in the warmer months. Coming into the cooler months on the first Friday of the month we hold “Hip Hop Fridays” with our resident vinyl DJs delivering a nice dose of proper Hip Hop & Funk, and on the last Friday of the month we host “Spellmans Trivia” which continues to pack out and is a lot of fun”.

Ryan’s love for music has always informed his desire to bring local acts to the local stage and the venue has housed some formidable acts such as Billy Bob, Joe Amputch Band and Carl Williams Jr, just to name a few.
